At Girgarre Primary School we aim to prioritise our students voices in many different ways. This includes taking openly with students about their areas of interest and incorporating this into our learning along with developing a curriculum that works with them.
Senior students participate in fortnightly class they aim to find solutions streamlining our school processes eg; developing a roster system for the school bikes, offering suggestions for our end-of-year excursion, providing feedback on previously implemented changes and learning about the positive outcomes of team work and open communication.
School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS)
Our SWPBS program rewards students for positive behaviour - in the classroom, out in the yard, on the bus and during excursions.
The behaviour matrix, developed with students, is matched to our school values:
Educating students on their own personal boundaries and instilling confidence, positive self-image, and strong self worth. We believe this sets the foundation of future strong independent citizens.
Discovering learning can come in many forms, we encourage students to follow their strengths and let us help them tackle any identified weaknesses together, learning through experience.
Learning to recognise we all have our differences and as a whole we can work together to achieve a common goal. We encourage studies to be kind and considerate of others.
Students respect their school by caring for the facilities, grounds and wearing school uniform with pride.
Through this fund, we have trained two staff to facilitate group sessions of the Secret Agent Society (SAS). This 20-week program support the experiences of students with neurodiversity in our learning community. Students learn social awareness and problem solving skills and participate in weekly missions, both in class and at home.
Girgarre Primary School has three dogs who visit each week: Esme and Nell, two dachshunds, and Tilly, a labradoodle, each visit once per week and are a highlight within the learning spaces and across the school. The dogs are often seen sitting with children during reading and when floor based activities are undertaken.
